Adding a stain to your hardwood flooring is one way to add character and personality to your floors. Similar to painting the walls in a room, hardwood floors can be stained a variety of shades, ranging from light to dark. This picture taken at a hardwood flooring store shows off some of the different stains available for application on oak flooring.
Applying stain to existing hardwood floors during refinish is relatively straight-forward as well. Stains can be applied once the hardwood flooring has been sanded down to bare wood (no finish coat remaining). Depending on the desired color/shade, one or two coats of stain are applied and absorbed by the hardwood flooring. The excess stain is then wiped off and the normal 2-3 coats of finish is applied.
